Dr. Andrew Swan Practices Community Outreach

Dr. Andrew Swan has always given back to his community. After working in Hamden, CT at the Eye Center of Southern Connecticut for 30 years, Swan has perfected his practice and his community outreach.

After attending Cornell University for his Bachelor's Degree, and SUNY Buffalo for his MD, Dr. Andrew Swan moved on to his internship at St. Raphael’s in New Haven. His residency was completed at Yale University’s School of Medicine Eye Center for Ophthalmology.

Reflecting on his education and time spent at Yale, Dr. Andrew Swan returned to help the Yale student body and improve their expertise in the medical field. He works as a clinical instructor for Yale’s residency program and lectures first-year medical students about how to diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases.

At Quinnipiac University, Dr. Andrew Swan lectures students while also teaching a clinical lab, where students practice examination methods in smaller groups.

Dr. Swan enjoys his work at Yale, however it’s limited based on his busy schedule with his own practice. “I hope to continue working with residents and students throughout my career”, says Doctor Swan. “It’s inspiring to see the expertise and enthusiasm generated by each class of practitioners.”

Dr. Andrew Swan Ophthalmologist dives into his practice by performing laser eye surgery to help his patients in ways traditional eye surgeries never could. Doctor Swan Hamden CT specializes in eye implant surgery at the Eye Center of Southern Connecticut and has been successful in practice for 30 years.

Swan was talented enough to receive his bachelor’s degree in English from Cornell. He then moved on to SUNY Buffalo and completed his MD. For his internship, he served at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven. Then, he completed his residency at the Yale University School of Medicine’s Yale Eye Center in Ophthalmology. 

At SUNY Buffalo, Dr. Andrew Swan Ophthalmologist was awarded the Maimonides Medical Society Award for academic excellence, as well as the Stephen J. Paolini Award for his dedication and compassionate patient care. Swan was honored with the Marvin L. Sears award for clinical excellence at Yale in 2006. 

Doctor Swan Ophthalmologist loves his practice and his community, and he’s given back in big ways. Doctor Swan Hamden CT has volunteered with clinics, such as the HAVEN clinic in New Haven. Dr. Swan provided assistance and advice for Yale University students while working pro-bono. His knowledge of Spanish helped him communicate with patients and treat them more effectively. 

With the rise of coronavirus, Dr. Andrew Swan’s Ophthalmologist practice in Hamden was stalled to help flatten the curve. They recently reopened, and have been successfully treating patients over the past month. Dr. Swan’s main office in Hamden is open, along with the satellite offices in Branford and Cheshire with normal operating hours. While flattening the curve is important, Dr. Swan’s practice is invaluable to his patients, and resuming work as soon as possible is crucial. 

Dr. Swan works alongside eight other doctors at the Eye Center in Hamden, CT. He’s one of the few that are trained in femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery. Swan also specializes in glaucoma treatment, diabetic retinopathy, cataract surgery, and comprehensive eye care.
