Dr. Andrew Swan, Ophthalmologist responds to the COVID-19 Crisis

Ophthalmologist responds to the COVID-19 Crisis

What an extraordinary past few weeks this has been.

The American Academy of Ophthalmology, The Center for Disease Control (CDC), in addition to local and state health authorities, have directed all routine examinations to be postponed until further notice.

This can be of concern to our contact lens wearers who have yearly prescriptions which are close to, or have already reached, expiry. To combat this, we have appointed an optometrist specifically available to review and authorize a three (3) month extension on current lens system prescriptions once applicable. Utilizing our replacement on-line portal, these lenses may be ordered and delivered to the patient's home without requiring patients to leave their home for an in-person consultation.

We are also continuing to staff our practice five days per week and providing personable, 24/7 on-call access to established patients (and new patients too!) for any emergencies or queries. Feel free to ask directly for Dr. Andrew Swan! Exams may be done by telemedicine wherever applicable, and if not requiring full surgery, may be performed underneath safe conditions in our Hamden workplace, while maintaining social distancing guidelines.

For those patients taking vital eye medications for chronic or progressive conditions that don't feel safe returning to The Eye Center for observation, we've been authorizing extensions to their pharmacy of those necessary prescriptions until such a time that we will safely resume in-person visits.
